Chat always visible

Congratulations for the work done in Etherpad! I just wanted to make a suggestion, I think there should be the option of being with chat messages always visible. As it is now, it becomes difficult to understand if there were new messages.

This is now possible by clicking on the settings button "wheel" and selecting "Chat always on screen"

Click chat button in the bottom right hand corner.. A chat dialog will pop up. That isn't clear enough? Thanks

I know that. I just gave a suggestion! When we enter the EtherPad, chat could already be open, as in the 'type with me'. Just a suggestion!

i might be able to make that the behavior on TypeWithMe but not Etherpad, Etherpad is a collaborative editor, not a chat website. If you get enough votes up I will make this happen.

FYI if you are mentioned in a chat your browser will now notify you via the taskbar and display a longer pop up

I was wondering if you could make it notify you via the tab as well. It could blink for thirty seconds that way you know if someone messged you while you are doing something else. It would be great for multitaskers!

Maybe the appearance of the chat button could change to something when there is a new message, or a mention
Iggy, 07.12.2011, 16:34
Not that I don't like it the way it is now

I just placed a new idea for this

I concur with this idea; in fact, I headed to this page to suggest something like it. :) I'm assuming this would cause the chat to not cover up the pad if the setting is enabled, as it is sometimes useful to look at both the chat and the entirety of the pad at the same time. It also might help to have a larger area for typing, though I don't know if that's related to this or not. Thanks!
